Highbush Cranberry
Highbush Cranberry
Highbush Cranberry, also known as American
Cranberrybush, is a rounded shrub that grows at a
medium rate, to 8-12 feet tall with dark green leaves that
turn shades of red, yellow, and purple in autumn. White
flowers bloom in spring and are followed by abundant
red fruit loved by birds. Although tolerant of most any
soil, it prefers moderately fertile, moist but well-drained
soil and thrives in full sun to part shade.
Problems: Insects such as aphids, scale insects, weevils,
Japanese beetles, mealybugs, and treehoppers are
common, while Botrytis, rust, mildews, wood rot,
Verticillium wilt, leaf spots, and dieback also occur.
