Central Platte NRD to Consider Request for

Little Sprouts Outdoor Classroom

(GRAND ISLAND, NE) The Kearney Area Children’s Museum is developing an outdoor space called the Little Sprouts Outdoor Classroom and has requested $2,000 through the Central Platte Natural Resources District’s (CPNRD) Community Grants Program.  The funding would be used towards the Prairie Garden Walkway in the outdoor classroom where plants would be selected that represent the prairie throughout the four seasons of the year.  The CPNRD board of directors will consider the request at their August board meeting to be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at the CPNRD office located at 215 Kaufman Avenue in Grand Island, NE.

OTHER ACTION/AGENDA ITEMS:

-Levy Hearing- A public levy hearing will be held at 1:55 p.m. just prior to the board meeting.  After the public hearing has been closed, the board will need to take action to sign a resolution and approve setting the levy rate for the 2016/2017 fiscal budget.

-NRCS December Event Request- The NRCS has requested funding in the amount of $500 to bring Gabe Brown, a renowned farmer/rancher from North Dakota, to speak at the Trotter Event Center in Ord, NE.  Brown is a producer who uses zero synthetic fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides on his 5,000-acre farm/ ranch; while out yielding the county average by 25 percent.

-Clean Community System Request- The board will take action on the funding request in the amount of $2,000 to be used for the operation of the Grand Island Area Clean Community Center facility and disposal of hazardous waste.

-Voting Delegate- The board will select a voting delegate and alternate for the Nebraska Association of Resources District’s annual conference to be held September 26-27 in Kearney, NE.

-September Board Meeting- The board will consider moving the upcoming board meeting to September 29, 2016.

-Other- As may develop prior to the board meeting.
