CPNRD to Take Action on the First Temporary Leasing Transactions
for the New Groundwater Exchange Program

(GRAND ISLAND, NE) The Groundwater Exchange results will be reviewed by the Central Platte Natural Resources District’s (CPNRD) Water Resources committee at their March meeting.  The CPNRD directors will then take action at their board meeting on these first transactions of this pilot program.  The board meeting is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on March 31 at the CPNRD, 215 Kaufman Avenue in Grand Island.

The Groundwater Exchange is the first of its kind to allow temporary leasing of groundwater.Pre-approved buyers and sellers will go online from March 21-March 25 to place their asking price to temporarily lease their water or place bids to buy water for one growing season.  More information is available at: www.market4water.com.

OTHER ACTION/AGENDA ITEMS:

-Project SENSE- Richard Ferguson, UNL professor of Agronomy & Horticulture, will present the first year results from experimental plots as part of the Project SENSE (Sensors for Efficient Nitrogen Use & Stewardship of the Environment).  The CPNRD along with four other NRDs, USDA-NRCS and Nebraska Corn Board participate in this pilot program.

-NRCS Report- Joe Krolikowski, USDA-NRCS acting district liaison, will report to the board.

-Exchange Account- The board will consider action to open a checking account at Five Points Bank for the Groundwater Exchange transactions and approve the board chairman sign the Certificate of Authority- Depository for Funds.

-Data Collection Agreement-   The board will consider action to approve an interlocal contract agreement and contract for the geophysical data collection work with Twin Platte NRD.

-College Scholarships- Ten recipients will be selected to receive college scholarship in the amount $1,000 for the upcoming 2016-2017 school year.  Applicants must be majoring in a natural resources related field to qualify for the scholarship.

-Basin Representatives- The board will select a representative and alternate for the second generation Basin-Wide Integrated Management Plan.

-Platte River Program- Czaplewski will also report on happenings with the Platte River Recovery Implementation Program.

-Budget- The Eastern Projects, Western Projects and Programs committees will begin working on their 2017 fiscal budgets.

-Other- As may develop prior to the board meeting.
