Lower Platte South NRD Backyard Prairie Pollinator Program Opens

01/10/2025

LINCOLN, Nebraska — The Lower Platte South Natural Resources District (LPSNRD) is excited to announce that the Backyard Prairie Pollinator Program will begin accepting applications for the 2025 season on Jan. 13 at 8 AM.

This program, available to all landowners within the district, is designed to enhance native grass and forb diversity while promoting critical pollinator habitats. Participants in the program will receive local-ecotype native seed at no cost, empowering them to create thriving habitats for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators.

Since its inception in 2023, the program has already made a significant impact, with 500 participants planting over 75 acres across the district. For the 2025 season, households and properties within the district are eligible to receive up to 1/4 acre of seed, distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis. Once the seed allotment is fully distributed, the program will close for the year.

By participating in the Backyard Prairie Pollinator Program, landowners can contribute to the creation of healthy pollinator habitats, supporting biodiversity across the district.

Interested landowners are encouraged to apply early, as the program’s popularity and limited seed allotment make it a highly sought-after opportunity.
