Lower Platte South NRD Lifts Temporary Fire Ban on Wildlife Management Areas
LINCOLN, Nebraska – In a move to encourage outdoor recreation while prioritizing safety, the Lower Platte South Natural Resources District (LPSNRD) has officially lifted the temporary fire ban on all Wildlife Management Areas. This decision comes on the heels of recent rain events across the District, which have significantly lowered the risk of wildfires in the region.
While the recent wet weather has brought welcome relief, LPSNRD officials urge the public to remain cautious and vigilant. "Although we are seeing improved conditions, it’s essential to remember that fire risks can change rapidly," said Will Inselman, Resources Coordinator at LPSNRD. “We encourage everyone to enjoy our Wildlife Management Areas responsibly and to keep fire safety a top priority.”
As a reminder, open fires are not permitted on any District property, with fires only allowed in designated fireplaces, grills, or fire rings provided by LPSNRD. Propane or gas stoves and charcoal grills are also acceptable. Visitors are encouraged to follow these guidelines to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience while exploring the District’s rich natural landscapes.
It is important to note that despite the recent rainfall, the region is still experiencing drought conditions. LPSNRD emphasizes the continued importance of water conservation. Residents are encouraged to be mindful of their water use as we work together to preserve this vital resource.
