Lower Platte South NRD Local Conservation Efforts Flourish with New Interlocal Agreement and Trail Repairs Ahead

Lower Platte South NRD Local Conservation Efforts Flourish with New Interlocal Agreement and Trail Repairs Ahead

10/18/2024

LINCOLN, Nebraska — In a significant move to enhance local conservation initiatives, the Lower Platte South Natural Resources District’s (LPSNRD) Board of Directors has passed an interlocal agreement with the Nebraska Association of Resources Districts (NARD) to ensure the continuation of its well-known conservation seedling program. This collaboration, approved October 16th, will provide the necessary trees and shrubs to support our community's environmental efforts, emphasizing the importance of green spaces in our district.

With tree orders scheduled to begin in November, residents are encouraged to participate in this important program. “We’re excited to continue offering our conservation seedling program in our District,” said Will Inselman, LPSNRD’s Resources Coordinator. “This partnership with NARD allows us to provide quality seedlings that will contribute to healthier ecosystems and vibrant landscapes throughout our community.”

Alongside this positive development, the board has also accepted bids to repair timber bridges along the Homestead Trail near Stagecoach Road as well as MoPac Trail with locations at 298th Street West and 310th Street South. As part of these necessary upgrades, certain sections of the trails will likely be closed starting in November and may remain inaccessible for the next four to six months. We understand that this may cause some inconvenience, but these repairs are essential for ensuring the safety and longevity of our trails.

For real-time updates on trail closures and additional information, please check our social media channels and website. We appreciate the community’s understanding and support as we work to improve both our conservation initiatives and recreational spaces.
