Central City High School Student to Present Nitrate and Uranium Research to the Central Platte NRD Board
GRAND ISLAND, Nebraska – Paul Johnson, a Central City High School student, will present his research project titled A Study to Determine Correlation between Nitrates and Uranium in Central Nebraska Rural Wells to the Central Platte Natural Resources District (CPNRD) Board of Directors. The presentation is scheduled to take place during the board's meeting on April 25, 2024.
The research delves into the critical relationship between nitrates and uranium levels in rural wells across Central Nebraska, shedding light on important environmental and public health concerns.
The CPNRD Board meeting will begin at 2 p.m. at the Central Platte NRD office, located at 215 Kaufman Avenue in Grand Island, NE.

a) Visit Kearney Request Recommendation to the Board for a request of $25,000 to develop a wildlife exhibit within the new Kearney Visitors Bureau's office and visitor center. The center is currently undergoing construction at the intersection of 11th Avenue and Talmadge Street. The proposed project aims to educate visitors about the diverse natural environment and wildlife in Central Nebraska and Kearney.
b) Cost Share Programs Review recommendations for the NRD’s Cost Share programs for FY 2025.
c) CPNRD-Ron Bishop Memorial Scholarship Program
Eastern & Western Projects The Eastern Projects and Western Projects committees will review recommendations for FY 2025.
Violation Report Luke Zakrzewski, GIS Image Analyst, will give an update and may request cease and desist orders to be issued on irrigated land that wasn’t certified or approved for irrigation through a transfer in 2023.
Natural Resources Conservation Service Joe Krolikowski, District Conservationist, and Jason Scholz, Resources Conservationist, Grand Island Field Office, will report.
Nebraska Association of Resources District Deb VanMatre, CPNRD Representative, will report.
Nebraska Natural Resources Commission Mick Reynolds, Middle Platte Basin Representative, will report.
Cost-Share Applications through the Nebraska Soil and Water Conservation and the Central Platte NRD cost-share programs will be considered.
