Lower Platte South NRD Now Taking Orders for Spring Conservation Tree Seedlings
LINCOLN, Nebraska – The Lower Platte South Natural Resources District (LPSNRD) is now accepting orders for conservation tree seedlings for spring planting. By ordering early, landowners can secure preferred tree species and make a lasting and positive impact on the environment.
Since 1972, Nebraska's Natural Resources Districts have worked with landowners to plant over 101 million trees across the state. At just $1 per seedling, these conservation trees offer substantial benefits to people, wildlife, and the environment. They provide shade, minimize soil erosion, protect crops and livestock, support wildlife, buffer noise, and add natural beauty to the landscape.
As windbreaks mature, LPSNRD Forester Aaron Clare encourages landowners to consider renovating older windbreaks or starting new plantings.
“Bare-root seedlings are a cost-effective way to plant dozens or even hundreds of trees and shrubs, which can serve as windbreaks, privacy screens, wildlife habitats, or simply enhance your property’s beauty," said Clare. "Trees and shrubs also provide cooling shade, sequester carbon, offer edible fruits and nuts, and supply wood for crafts. Seedlings are ideal for renovating or adding to existing windbreaks and shelterbelts as well."
The LPSNRD Conservation Tree Program provides an affordable solution for landowners to protect and enhance their properties. In addition, the Lower Platte South NRD offers a variety of cost-share tree programs such as the Community Forestry Program and Tree Landscape Program.
