Schools Compete in 2024 North Central Land Judging Contest

10/11/2024

ORD, Nebraska -- High School students from across a large swath of Nebraska competed in the 2024 North Central Land Judging Contest on Oct. 9 near Albion. Norm and Darlene Reynoldson of rural Albion graciously allowed the contest to take place on their land.

Students from Twin River, Ord, Fullerton, Ansley, St. Edward, Boone Central, Arcadia, and Nebraska Ag Academy competed in the contest hosted by the Lower Loup NRD and NRCS, with support from the State Land Judging Committee.

Land Judging challenges students to gain a better understanding of soil structure and land evaluation by enabling participants to learn how to recognize the physical features of the soil, determine land capability for crop production, and evaluate management practices necessary for proper stewardship.

Lane Lund of Twin River placed first in the individual standings, followed by Dawson Thompson of Ord in 2nd place. Logan Kershaw of Twin River placed third.

Twin River took first place in the team standings, Ord won second place, and Fullerton won third place.

Congratulations to the winners, and thanks to all the contestants and their teachers, and the NRD and NRCS staff who made the event possible.
