NRD Ballot has Vacancy
LINCOLN (NE) August 8, 2014 - Residents of the Lower Platte South Natural Resources District's Subdistrict 3 can still get on November election ballots. A vacancy occurred on the ballot when a candidate filed to run for a four-year term on the NRD Board, then later declined the official nomination due to scheduling conflicts.
Candidates must be a registered voter and reside within Subdistrict 3, which includes much of northeast Lincoln, Davey, Ceresco and Prairie Home. A detailed interactive subdistrict map is available at lpsnrd.org. Click on "Publications." Nebraska election laws provide two ways to fill the ballot vacancy and both require pre-registration with the Secretary of State's office. Petitioning will actually get a candidate's name on the ballot and circulated petitions must be filed with the Secretary of State's office by September second. Candidates can also register with the Secretary of State's office as a write-in candidate at least ten days prior to the November 4th General Election.
The 21-member Lower Platte South NRD Board consists of two representatives from each of ten subdistricts and an at-large member, who serve four-year terms.
