(Alma, NE) The Lower Republican Natural Resources District (NRD) is pleased to announce the board of directors has hired Todd Siel of Franklin, NE as the new general manager. Siel will begin on August 1st, 2017.

"I'm excited for the opportunity to make an impact with the LRNRD and believe this to be a significant responsibility, not just for our district, but for the entire Republican River basin and the great state of Nebraska,” said Siel. “My family’s roots run deep here in south central Nebraska and I am committed to furthering the ideals and objectives already set forth by the LRNRD."

Siel grew up on the family farm near Franklin where they grew crops and raised livestock. He has lived and worked in the area most of his life. He was the co-owner operator of a construction business with his brother for 25 years. They were involved in agricultural land development and improvement, including erosion control measures and drainage structures as well as many other projects. Most recently, he has been involved in banking in Phillipsburg, KS.

Siel attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science with a Minor in Biology. He and his wife, Melinda, live in Franklin, NE. They have a son, age 26, and daughter, age 23. The current general manager, Mike Clements, will retire September 1st, 2017 after 16 years of work and dedication to the NRDs. Within the last 16 years, the LRNRD has started the Rural Water Project and jointly developed NCORPE to meet the water demand for Kansas on the Republican River.

“It has been an honor and a privilege for me to serve the constituents of the Lower Republican NRD the past 16 years,” said Clements. “Great strides have been made to conserve our most precious natural resource and I look forward to nothing but good things from the Lower Republican in the future.”

Clements is looking forward to spending time with his family and golfing.

The Lower Republican NRD’s board is made up of publicly-elected individuals from across the district. Lower Republican NRD covers Furnas, Harlan, Franklin as well as parts of Webster and Nuckolls counties and works with all types of landowners.
