Lower Big Blue NRD Prohibits Target Shooting

Lower Big Blue NRD Prohibits Target Shooting

07/08/2019

Lower Big Blue Natural Resources District (NRD) unanimously voted to prohibit blue rock and target shooting at all Lower Big Blue NRD-owned and operated areas.

During the June 26 Lower Big Blue NRD board meeting, discussion included safety concerns prompted by complaints from visitors to the lakes and area residents. The NRD has received more frequent reports of individuals shooting toward occupied areas, leaving trash and target debris at the lakes, and shooting into the dams.

Most recently, damage to a concrete riser was discovered at Wolf-Wildcat Wildlife Management Area. This follows damage to the outlet pipe at Clatonia Creek Wildlife Management Area in 2018. Anyone who is found to be target shooting on NRD property will be subject to the maximum fine allowed by the NRD and Nebraska Game and Parks regulations.

Discharging of firearms is prohibited from June 1 to Aug. 31 at all Lower Big Blue NRD areas. Hunting in accordance with general hunting and special-area regulations is allowed at Lower Big Blue NRD areas from Sept. 1 to June 1 unless prohibited or restricted. Hunting is not allowed within 100 yards of any public-use facility or activity area including the picnic area, parking lot and/or boat ramp.
