Temporary Closure of Steamboat Trace Trail Section
Temporary Closure of Steamboat Trace Trail Section
Nemaha Natural Resources District officials announced today that two sections of the Steamboat Trace trail will be closed next week to allow for repairs to a couple of bridges. The areas to be closed are between Minersville on the north to just south of the Camp Creek bridge, which is roughly a five-mile section; and between the boat dock road in Peru and Honey Creek south of Peru (about four miles). Minersville is near the OPPD power plant south of Nebraska City, and Camp Creek crosses the trail about a mile north of the Otoe/Nemaha County line. It is estimated the repairs to bridges within the closed sections will take about a week, so the closure is currently scheduled for June 22-26.
Signs will be posted and barriers erected to keep trail visitors from accessing those sections. Other areas of the trail remain open, so you could still head north from the Peru trailhead as far as Camp Creek, or north from the Brownville trailhead to Honey Creek.
