FIFTH GRADERS PARTICIPATE IN WATER WORKS FIELD DAY

GRETNA, Nebraska - Approximately 1,650 fifth graders from Douglas and Sarpy counties will participate in an environmental field day with a focus on water. "Water Works 2014" will be held on Tuesday, May 6 and Wednesday, May 7. The program is being held at Schramm State Park and the Eastern Nebraska 4-H Center in Gretna. Classes start at 10 a.m. and conclude at 1:30 p.m. This will be the 24th year for this unique educational event. Participating classes were selected through a random drawing.

Students will learn about current issues and values concerning our water, one of our most important natural resources. Every class will attend six water-related sessions during the day. Sessions are taught by experts in the field from a variety of agencies.

Topic areas include:
Ak-Sar-Ben Aquarium 
Pollution Solution (model of a watershed community) 
Drinking Water (how MUD works, hands-on water testing) 
Water Recreation (canoeing, fishing or water rockets) 
The Great Outdoors (snakes and frogs) 
Water Cycle Game (roll the giant dice and become part of the water cycle)
