Nemaha NRD Election Guide
Nemaha NRD Election Guide
Deadlines are quickly approaching to file for a chance to represent your friends and neighbors on the board of directors of the Nemaha Natural Resources District. The Nemaha NRD is divided into 20 subdistricts, which are represented by two members elected for four-year terms. Their terms are staggered with one of the two seats up for election every even numbered year. These 20 positions are selected only by the voters within the subdistrict boundaries that they represent. In addition one at-large position is elected from anywhere within the NRD area, and that position is included this year.
In addition to the eleven, four-year terms up for election, two, two-year spots are also available this year. Due to vacancies that occurred in Subdistrict 4 and Subdistrict 10 within the first 19 months of their terms, state law now requires the final two years of these terms be filled through the general election process. Dan Hodges, Julian, was appointed to the Subdistrict 4 vacancy and serves through the end of this year. Subdistrict 10 is currently vacant following the recent resignation of Ted Godemann, Falls City. Letters of interest from anyone interested in filling this vacancy through the end of 2014 are currently being accepted at the NNRD office for consideration at the February 13 regular board meeting. Subdistrict 10 includes the entire city limits of Falls City.
NNRD directors must live within the subdistrict they wish to represent and be registered voters who are qualified to hold an elected office. Forms necessary for filing are available at the NNRD office or on the Secretary of State's website, but these must be filed at the Secretary of State's office by close of business on either February 18 or March 3, the incumbent and non-incumbent deadlines.
More detailed information and descriptions of subdistrict boundaries are available by contacting the Nemaha NRD office in Tecumseh (335-3325) or by checking the website at www.nemahanrd.org.
