The Lower Platte South NRD in Lincoln, Nebraska, is seeking a district engineer. This position is full-time and salaried with a range of $91,423 to $136,217.

 

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Professional Engineer to join our team. Under the supervision of the General Manager, the successful candidate will perform professional engineering duties related to District programs and projects, coordinate with consultants, and review engineering studies, reports, proposals, and designs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct engineering support for District studies and projects, focusing on flood control dams, levees, streambank stabilization, and stormwater basins.
  • Coordinate with consultants and review proposals, models, designs, plans, reports, contracts, and cost estimates.
  • Conduct project management and necessary project inspections and prepare relevant recommendations and reports.
  • Review external plans, programs, studies, and projects related to the District, and prepare appropriate responses or recommendations.
  • Support completed NRD projects through inspection, maintenance, preparation, and implementation of emergency action plans, and managing flood fighting responsibilities.
  • Supervise the Projects Coordinator, O&M Coordinator, and GIS Specialist.
  • Representation of the District at relevant meetings and making public appearances to explain assigned projects.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
(The following may be acquired on the job and are essential for the position)

  • Demonstrated knowledge of watershed and stream hydrology and hydraulics, with strong analytical skills for interpreting data and modeling results.
  • Understanding of engineering principles and practices for water resource projects, construction equipment and practices, inspection techniques, and permitting and contracting procedures.
  • Effective communication skills for interactions with both rural and urban stakeholders.
  • Ability to supervise and direct the work of others.
  • Capability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, contractors, landowners, governmental agencies, and the public.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in agricultural or civil engineering with an emphasis in water resources, plus two years of engineering experience, or a licensed professional engineer.
  • Valid Driver’s License required.
  • Physical ability to lift a minimum of 20 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications
Professional Engineers License preferred.
