Salary Range: $53,056 to $71,123

Job Description
The Public Communications Specialist will assist in the development and implementation of activities aimed at informing the public, Lower Platte South Natural Resources District (LPSNRD), and other governmental officials about natural resource management issues and the role of the LPSNRD. Under the supervision of the Communications Coordinator/Adult Environmental Education, this position will perform various tasks to promote and disseminate information through diverse media channels.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Confer with news representatives to discuss the District's public information needs, develop and maintain contacts, and facilitate the dissemination of District and program information through mass media.
  • Develop strategies to communicate NRD programs, projects, and events via digital and traditional media, including radio, television, print, and NRD social media platforms.
  • Write, research, design, compose, edit, and/or layout content for newsletters, news releases, brochures, audiovisual presentations, PowerPoint presentations, and other mediums.
  • Design and set up informational displays, exhibits, events, and demos. Update and maintain NRD website.
  • Advise District management on public relations strategies and the impact of information releases, suggesting alternative approaches for information dissemination.
  • Assist with environmental education efforts and topical research.
  • Maintain a library of slides, photos, videos, and other informational materials. Prepare presentations and operate PA system and audiovisual equipment during board meetings. Schedule and maintain audiovisual equipment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Organizational structure, purpose, activities, priorities, and goals of the District.
  • Techniques, formats, and styles of public relations programming and information dissemination through digital and traditional media.
  • Natural resources and environmental terms and practices.

Ability to:

  • Design and layout informational materials.
  • Develop effective mediums and content for target audiences.
  • Operate audiovisual equipment.

Skills in:

  • Adobe Creative Cloud Suite (Premier, Audition, InDesign, Photoshop).
  • Windows Environment.
  • Effective communication, both oral and written, tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Writing and editing.
  • Multi-tasking across multiple projects.
  • Basic graphic design and multimedia production.
  • Photography and videography.
