Water Quality Programs Coordinator - Twin Platte NRD, North Platte
The Twin Platte NRD located in North Platte, Nebraska, is seeking a full-time Water Quality Programs Coordinator.
Primary Duties
• Goals – Work with landowners and operators to carry out the TPNRD goals
• Rules - Implementation and enforcement of the TPNRD rules
• Monitoring, Data Collection, & Investigations
• Development and maintaining an effective approach of ground water quality for understanding the current ground water quality issues
• Coordination to select and pump ground water wells to measure nitrates in areas of concern
• Coordination of the TPNRD ground water monitoring program to measure nitrates in the current 106 locations and develop and maintain displaying real time the nitrate levels on the growers water data program dashboard and app and on the TPNRD website
• TPNRD Ground Water Manager’s App – A multifaceted program to provide growers with information on their water quality and chemigation permitting
• TPNRD consultants - Coordination
• Information and Education – Individual meetings with landowners and operators in target areas, annual public meetings throughout the TPNRD and articles for the Newsletter, Media, and Social Media.
• Coordination with local, state, and federal agencies.
Regulatory Programs
• Chemigation – Management of the Chemigation Program, conducting routine inspections of ground water wells and equipment used to apply chemicals through irrigation systems, and coordinating routine inspections by the Conservation Programs Coordinator of ground water wells and equipment used to apply chemicals through irrigation systems
• Erosion & Sediment Control – Investigate complaints between landowners and facilitate approved solutions.
Information & Education Programs
Work with area middle and high school students and teachers to engage and interest students in promoting natural resources
Maintenance
• Assigned vehicles and equipment used for this position
• Vehicle and Equipment Building - Work together with other staff to maintain
Duties Assisting Other Personnel
Water Programs
• Monitoring, Data Collection, & Investigations – Assist the Water Programs Field Coordinator for measuring wells for ground water levels and for nitrates
• Surface Water – Assist the Water Programs Field Coordinator working with the surface water irrigation districts
• Water Data Program Compliance & Enforcement – Assist the Water Data Program Coordinator for measuring the flow rates of ground water wells and maintaining field equipment
Skills & Characteristics
This job is a highly diverse position that works with many programs and projects at any one time. Must be driven and able to work under minimal supervision. Must be organized, good at communicating with farmers and ranchers, and other agency representatives. Microsoft Office computer skills are necessary. Being able to improvise as needed when using sound judgement. Must be able to read maps to find locations.
Qualifications
• Bachelor or Associate degree with an emphasis in Natural Resources and Water Quality.
• Any combination of education or experience related to the duties may be considered
• An ag background is beneficial
• A current driver's license valid in Nebraska and a good driving record
Salary
Regular office hours are Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to noon and 1-5 p.m. Additional work hours will occasionally occur in the evening or on a weekend day.
Salary is determined from a salary schedule for each position and is paid once a month - Starting annual salary is approximately $50,000. The position is Administrative or Professional as defined by the Fair Labor Standards Act and additional compensation is not paid for overtime. Benefits package includes health insurance, retirement, holidays, vacation, and sick leave.
