The Twin Platte NRD located in North Platte, Nebraska, is seeking a full-time Range Programs Technician.
Range Program
Work under the direction of the NRCS District Conservationist for administration and execution of range and pasture inventory throughout the District, as well as grazing system design.
Range Programs Technician will be conducting inventories of rangelands, pasturelands, and wildlife lands that are impacted by the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP), Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP), Conservation Reserve Program (CRP), and Conservation Technical Assistance (CTA). Applicant will be responsible for assisting NRCS in providing technical assistance necessary to inventory grazing land resources, and designing grazing systems. The objective of the agreement(s) is to conduct comprehensive grazing land resource inventories so that NRCS Field Offices can provide technical assistance to producers in the planning, surveying, designing, layout, and implementation of prescribed grazing plans that meet grazing land conservation objectives. A certain amount of this work will also be accomplished through the Nebraska Soil and Water Conservation Program (NSWCP).
All assistance provided must meet USDA standards and specifications as set forth in departmental manuals, handbooks, and Field Office Technical Guide, conservation planning, conservation practice application, and other areas of technical assistance. The employee’s duties may include, but not necessarily be limited to conservation plan development, program contract development, grazing lands management, drought mitigation for grazing lands, wildlife habitat management, plant community ecology, in-service training, producer workshops, one-on-one assistance to producers, conservation promotion and marketing throughout the area. The employee will use the NRCS three-phase, nine-step planning process and report for the NRCS the appropriate data elements associated with the assistance in Customer Service Toolkit, and enter the data into the conservation accomplishment tracking system. Inventory mapping will be completed using ArcGIS mapping software.
Other Duties
This person works under the direction of the NRCS District Conservationist and will perform other duties as assigned by the Natural Resources Conservation Service.
Qualifications
The employee must have a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience) in Range Science, Natural Resources Management, biological sciences, ecology, agriculture, or disciplines such as forestry, plant science, wildlife management, agronomy, soil science, or water quality. Employees much have one year of specialized experience. In some instances, experience may be substituted for education.
Salary
Regular office hours are Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to noon and 1-5 p.m. Additional work hours will occasionally occur in the evening or on a weekend day.
Salary is determined from a salary schedule for each position and is paid once a month - Starting annual salary is approximately $38,000. The position is Administrative or Professional as defined by the Fair Labor Standards Act and additional compensation is not paid for overtime. Benefits package includes health insurance, retirement, holidays, vacation, and sick leave.
